MLB news: Sept. 8 -- Braves are first NL team to reach postseason
With an 8-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners, the Atlanta Braves became the first team to assure themselves a berth in the upcoming National League playoffs.
With a 92-51 record, Atlanta owns an 18.5-game lead over the second-place New York Mets with 19 games left in the regular season.
The Braves also are on track for the best record in the NL, as they sit 6.5 games in front of the Chicago Cubs for that honor.
This will mark the eighth consecutive postseason appearance for Atlanta.
The Braves last reached the World Series in 2021, when they defeated the Houston Astros.
