MLB news: Sept. 14 -- Cubs will be part of postseason
With a 6-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, the Chicago Cubs have assured themselves a place in the National League playoffs.
At 88-59, the Cubs lead the St. Louis Cardinals by 10.5 games in the National League Central Division with 15 games remaining in the regular season.
In the race for the top seed in the NL playoffs, the Cubs trail the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves by 6.5 games.
The playoff berth is the first for the Cubs since 2020.
Chicago last made the World Series in 2016 when it defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games.
