MLB news: Sept. 15 -- Yankees clinch top seed in American League postseason
With a 9-7 victory over the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees not only wrapped up the title in the American League East Division but the overall top seed in the upcoming playoffs.
The victory improved the Yankees to 98-50 for the season, putting them 15.5 games ahead of the second-place Red Sox with 14 games remaining.
Boston owns the second-best record in the AL, meaning that no other team has a chance to move ahead of New York in the final weeks of the season.
