MLB news: Sept. 26 -- Reds first postseason berth since 2020
With a 6-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cincinnati Reds have clinched their first trip to the playoffs since 2020.
At 83-75, the Reds sit second in the National League Central, some 12 games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs with four games left on the schedule.
But the Reds sits atop the wild-card standings, a half-game in front of the St. Louis Cardinals.
If the teams should finish with identical records, Cincinnati would earn home-field advantage thanks to its 8-3 regular-season record against St. Louis.
The Reds last reached the World Series in 1990, when it upset the Oakland Athletics in a four-game sweep.
