MLB news: Sept. 27 -- Red Sox clinch wild-card berth
The Boston Red Sox have earned an American League wild-card berth with an 8-3 win over the Detroit Tigers.
At 88-71, Boston boasts the second-best record in the American League, unfortunately the best mark belongs to the New York Yankees, who sit atop of the American League East Division at 105-54 leaving the Red Sox 17 games in their wake.
Boston sits two games ahead of the Minnesota Twins for the No. 1 wild card with three games left in the regular season.
The postseason berth is the first for the Red Sox since 2021. They last reached the World Series in 2018, when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers.
