MLB news: Sept. 30 -- Indians makes playoffs as wild card
Despite a 2-1 win over the Texas Rangers, the Cleveland Indians had to settle for a wild-card berth in the American League postseason after the Minnesota Twins claimed the Central Division title with a 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
With an 88-74 record, the Indians finished a game shy of the Twins in the final AL Central standings.
Minnesota will face the top-seeded wild card, Boston, in the wild-card round.
The Red Sox, at 90-72, posted the second-best record in the American League behind the |AL East champion New York Yankees.
Cleveland is back in the playoffs for the first time in 2022.
The Indians last made the World Series in 2016, when they lost to the Cubs in seven games.
Cleveland last won the World Series in 1948, defeating the Boston Braves.
