Expos Win 3-2 After Late Inning Drama

Montreal parlayed a decent outing from starter Juan Miranda into a solid win over the Oakland Oaks. The final score was 3-2. With the win, Montreal has a record of 73-74. Oakland falls to 71-77.

"I was able to really locate my pitches tonight," said Miranda. He worked seven innings of 8-hit and 1-run ball, walking none and striking out six.

Montreal used a timely hit from Joe Hawk to get the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Expos ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact. He is now batting .263-18-63 .772OPS 1.9WAR in 119 games between MON and KCR.

September 21st

Slugfest Goes Expos Way, 10-7, at Oakland

A good performance from designated hitter Joe Hawk helped the Montreal Expos defeat the Oakland Oaks, 10-7. Hawk was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs for the Expos. The winning pitcher was Marty Murrietta. He's now 8-6. He went 6.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits for the Expos. Adam Rudolph was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 19 of 22 save opportunities.

Early in the game, first baseman Dave Grochowski had a 2-run home run for Montreal. It was his 18th home run of the season and put the Expos on top, 4-2.

"We take it day by day here," said Grochowski, "and today was a good one for us." He is batting .346-18-85 .933OPS 5.1WAR in 142 games.

The Expos now have a record of 74-74 with the win over Oakland.

Mets Capture Close Win

Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the New York Mets got the win.

New York picked up a win at Citi Field, bumping off the Montreal Expos, 3-2. Pitcher Zach Laurents was a major reason the Mets emerged victorious. He worked seven innings of 2-run ball. Brian Sirianni notched his 30th save in 32 chances.

Bernie Castillo
, who led the EL in hits with 198 in 2020, helped out the New York cause in the bottom of the eighth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the third baseman went 3-4 with 3 singles. The 2x Silver Slugger is batting .311-15-67 .812OPS 3.8WAR in 139 games.

"Tough loss," said Montreal manager Aaron McCreery. "But we'll learn from it."

New York has run its win streak to 4 consecutive.

Hinton Leads Montreal to 3-1 Win

Montreal pitcher Dan Hinton did his part in helping his team beat the New York Mets, 3-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage, allowing only two hits and one run through seven.

"I had everything working," said Hinton. Adam Rudolph got the save, his 20th in 23 chances. Montreal is now 75-75, New York 67-83.

Montreal used the hitting of Matt Talbert to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Expos on top, 1-0. For the game, Talbert had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats. The 25-year old is batting .245-9-23 .768OPS 0.6WAR in 68 games.

Mets Stymied By Expos, Griffin

Montreal Expos starter Sam Griffin turned in an exceptional performance against the New York Mets at Citi Field, resulting in a Montreal win, 7-0. Montreal now sits at 76-75, while New York falls to 67-84.

Griffin yielded no runs on 2 hits over 7.1 innings for the Expos. For the season, Griffin has a record of 16-11 with 100 strikeouts.

Griffin attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."

Mets Rack Up 4-3 Win Versus Montreal

New York Mets starter Doug Williams pitched a strong game against the Montreal Expos at Citi Field, leading the Mets to victory, 4-3. Williams got the win, improving to 4-1. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 5 innings. He allowed 2 runs.

"We have a lot of confidence in Doug," said New York manager Nathan Sandlin. Brian Sirianni converted his 31st save in 33 tries.

The Expos had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Mets going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the four-time All-Star Bernie Castillo came to the plate. Castillo hit a 2-run double on a 0-2 slider from Montreal hurler Juan Miranda. It was Castillo's 38th double of the year. He is now batting .312-15-69 3.8WAR in 142 games.

The ‘Who is hot’ list is accurate I would say. Now, we have 10 games to go, and are 5.5 GB in the division and 4.5GB in the wild card… I know there are fans screaming miracle playoff run but I doubt it. We will let it play out.
