Game 74: Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays
This was the Rafael Devers show, as the All-Star third baseman smashed 3 Homeruns on the day to lead the Boston Red Sox (41-33) to a 7 to 1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays (34-40).
While Devers may have garnered much of the limelight, Brayan Bello (10-5) continued his successful season picking up the victory by limiting the Jays to 6 hits and 3 walks in his 8 innings of scoreless ball; Game Score 71. Garrett Cleavinger was tagged for 1 earned run on a hit and a walk in his 1 inning of play. Powering the offense today was Rafael Devers (4 for 4, 3 Homeruns, 3 Runs, 3 RBI, Walk), Tyler O'Neill (1 for 4, Homerun, Run, 2 RBI, Walk, Stolen Base), and Jarren Duran (2 for 5, Run). Of Note, Devers was recognized as MLB's #1 Performance of the Day.
Taking the loss for Toronto was Yusei Kikuchi (4-6) who permitted 5 earned runs on 10 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8 in 6 2/3 innings of work; Game Score 41. Tim Mayza allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 1 walk over the remaining 2 1/3 innings of play. Danny Jansen (1 for 4, Homerun, Run, RBI), George Springer (2 for 4), and Davis Schneider (1 for 3, Walk, Stolen Base) played well in defeat.
