Cards news: Nov. 29 -- Closer Jason Foley acquired from Detroit for two minor-league pitchers
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed closer Jason Foley from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for minor league right-handed pitchers Edwin Nunez and Max Rajcic.
Foley, 30, has spent the last two seasons as the closer for Detroit, accumulating 56 saves in that span.
Signed as a free agent by Detroit in 2016, he broke into the majors in 2021.
In 2025, he got into 63 games going 7-6 with 28 saves and a 2.23 ERA.
Over the course of his career, he has worked in 273 games, all in relief, going 14-15 with 63 saves and a 2.93 ERA.
Signed as an international free agent by St. Louis in 2020, Nunez, 24, spent the 2025 season at High-A Peoria where he went 11-3 with a 2.60 ERA in 26 games/17 starts.
For his career, he has gone 21-21 with 12 saves and a 5.60 ERA in 155 games/36 starts.
Rajcic, also 24, was taken in the sixth round of the 2022 draft by St. Louis.
He split the 2025 season between rookie-league Jupiter and low-A Palm Beach.
In 17 games/20 starts, he went 2-1 with 11 saves and a 4.31 ERA.
