The Avalanche beat out the White Sox thanks to a 4-2 regular season record. The Royals will either face the Yankees for the 6th time in the post season, or the Rays for the first time.
Over in the National League, the Padres earn the top seed with a 99-win season, while the Marlins take the second bye thanks to a 7-6 regular season advantage over the Braves, The Braves will take on NL Central champs the Cardinals, while the second wild card series is an all-NL West match between the Dodgers and the Rockies.
