Additional Thoughts and News

Some additional thoughts. I would not expect us to be super active this offseason. No hot free agents as it seems right now, and only minor league trade chips as our 40-man is not that clogged with junk as it was the last seasons.

Some things on the shopping list tho:
Left-handed Catcher with defensive qualities (we only have right-handed bats)
Ace reliever that can hold down the closers job for the next years
Alternatively: The hottest relief prospect we can find.

And looking through the players list… this is a nearly impossible task. 4* and above closers are rare, relief prospects above 3.5* are non-existent and left-handed defensive catchers 2* or above below 25-years are… rare.

Guess it has to be the unaimed arrow that may hit the target. It may just be a boring offseason.

News:
November 5th - In a minor league deal, the Montreal Expos traded AAA LHSP Hitoshi Watanabe(23, 2.5*, 8-8 3.82 113K 2.8WAR 20GS) to the Detroit Trains in exchange for R RHSP Jimmy Payne(19, 1.5/3*, 1-2 2.01 30K 0.2WAR 6GS).
Watanabe was eligible for the Rule 5 and is not really the hottest talent in town. Also, he was deemed as fragile. On the other hand, our scouting department was hot on Payne, their 7th rounder in 2021.

November 6th – Another minor league transaction. The Montreal Expos sent 24-year old AA RF Oscar Burhoe(24, 2.5*, .250-6-23 .694OPS 1.5WAR) to the Vancouver Canadians in exchange for AA RHRP Robert Estrada(23, 2.5/3*, 2-3 25SV 3.19 58K 48IP 1.5WAR).
Burhoe was one of four options for our last outfielder spot, and we decided against him Instead, we will get a potentially strong reliever. Estrada throws triple digits and has a strong slider and is a good humble personality… and may audition for our pen next spring.

November 8th – Our new third base coach has signed in Tom Acvedo has signed a 3-year contract for $320k per year. He will work with our catchers and with our runners to improve the running game and therefore our on-field performance.

November 9th – RF Ian Messer(26, 2.5/3*) agreed to a 1y/$1.8M contract extension, buying out arbitration. Yaay.
