It turns out there were three Kavanaghs who played in the majors in 1914. Charlie played for the White Sox, while Leo played for the Whales in the Federal League, and Marty played for Detroit. The Kavanagh who played for the Federals in 1913 was Charlie, aka Silk, Kavanagh, and the photo is definitely from the 1913 Federal League. I haven't checked to see if the two (Leo and Charlie) were brothers. Both were from Chicago.

Updated: A quick perusal of Ancestry.com doesn't reveal any immediate connection between Charlie and Leo. That doesn't mean it isn't there. Leo did have a brother named Charlie, but he was born (according to the quick search) in 1884.

The photo came from the website of the Chicago Historical Society, and is one of several photos of players identified as with the Chicago Federals in 1913, including Jack Farrell, Lou Gertenrich, Jimmy McDonough, and Tom McGuire. Gertenrich did not play for the Whales in 1914, while the others did. Maybe the photos are dated incorrectly?
