México get first series win!
April 9, 2025
Randy Arozarena's 5th inning double makes all the difference as México edge past San Diego for their second straight win. Adrián Martínez gets his first win and Andrés Muñoz gets hist first save in 2025. México move to 2-11 on the season.
México came out swinging, with Marcelo Mayer leading off the game with a triple before Luis Urías' 2-run homer gave México an early lead. The next inning, Mayer himself got an RBI on a double that gave México a 3-run lead.
Jackson Merrill and JD Martinez brought San Diego back, with the top of the 3rd ending 2-3 in favor of México.
Luis Urías used his speed in the 5th, scoring all the way from 1st base on a Randy Arozarena double. This run was the difference maker, giving México a win despite Xander Bogaerts hitting a homer in the 6th.
Adrián Martínez was pulled after 7 innings, giving up 9 hits and 3 earned runs. He also struck out 3 opponents. Manuel Rodríguez got a hold and Andrés Muñoz got his first save of the season, striking out one. The Atléticos move to 2-11, while the Padres are 4-9.

Clutch hitting, decent defense and having some good bullpen arms give us our first series win! Fun Fact: In 1951, the New York Giants started the season 2-11 and then went on to play in the World Series! I'm under no illusion, we're not a good team, but it's fun to be on a (2-game) winning streak. Some of our bats have woken up: Isaac Paredes was hitting .182 but has 7 hits in the last 4 games; Marcelo Mayer is having a great start with a .333/.362/.511 slash. If we could get on base more (our .302 team OBP is 8th best), we should be able to win some more games.
