2030 E2L and ET3

Edinburgh dominated the Western Conference standings and had the European Second League’s best record at 108-54. This was the first playoff berth for the Enforcers since returning to E2L in 2026. Edinburgh’s previous first place finish came back in 2009 when they earned promotion. Reykjavik was a strong second place at 100-62, also getting their first berth since getting relegated back for 2024.

There was a solid drop to third place Liverpool at 93-69 and an even bigger drop to the final playoff team Belfast at 87-75. The Brewers edged out Zaragoza (86-76) and Oslo (85-77) to earn their second wild card in three years. The Phantoms picked up their seventh playoff trip and were one of the few teams to never earn a promotion yet.

It was a huge collapse for Toulouse, who went from a 92-70 wild card in 2029 to a last place 58-104. This was the first year that teams were promoted or relegated to European Tier Three, giving the Toads the unfortunate distinction of demotion. Toulouse was nine games worse than the next worth team Nottingham.

In the Double Round Robin, the top two rolled to 5-1 marks, earning promotions for both Edinburgh and Reykjavik. Liverpool and Belfast both were ousted at 1-5. It was the third promotion for the Raccoons, who had most recently been in the European Baseball Federation’s Elite Tier from 2021-23. The Enforcers got their second promotion, having spent a lengthy 2010-25 run in the big time. In the Western Conference Championship, Edinburgh prevailed 4-2 over Reykjavik for their second conference title.

One win separated the top three in the Eastern Conference and only six wins separated the top six. Belgrade and Tallinn were even at the top at 103-59 with the Bruisers taking first place on the tiebreaker. Lviv at 102-60 was right behind, earning their third playoff berth in four years. Belgrade got back-to-back playoff appearances, while it was the first for the Twisters since returning to E2L in 2027.

Sarajevo was right there at 99-63 too, fending off 97-65 Helsinki for the final playoff spot. The Salukis hadn’t been a playoff team since their lone conference title back in 2014. The Honkers had gotten promoted in 2028, but were relegated right back after a poor 2029. Malta was a distant sixth at 88-74 with last year’s first place finisher Thessaloniki next at 81-81. Athens was the team relegated out of the EC at 52-110 with only Dnipro (58-104) somewhat close. The Anchors had been in E2L since 2019.

Earning promotions from the Double Round Robin were Sarajevo (5-1) and Tallinn (4-2), while Lviv (3-3) and Belgrade (0-6) were ousted. The Salukis had been promoted once back in 2014, but only lasted one year in the EBF Elite. It was the second move up for the Twisters, who had a brief 2024-26 tenure in the big time. Sarajevo rolled Tallinn 4-1 to claim the Eastern Conference Championship.

In the 26th Second League Championship, Sarajevo earned their first title with a 4-2 victory over Edinburgh.

Other notes: Alojzy Gronowski and Karl Aage Murbeck became the second and third batters in E2L with 400 career home runs.

In the second season for European Tier Three, Gdansk (93-69) and Dresden (90-72) earned the first two spots for promotion. A number of teams were close behind with Lille and Ostrava at 89-73, along with Donetsk and Montenegro at 86-76. The Torpedoes had been the inaugural ET3 champ in the pilot season, while Cyprus had been the runner-up. The Crush finished 84-78 in 2030, tied for seventh with Newcastle. In the championship series, Gdansk edged Dresden in a 4-3 classic.
