MISSING PLAYER Maurice "Molly/Mollie" Moore 1875 Brooklyn Atlantics
Been spending time on Molly Moore's case trying to ID him and stumbled about an eventful woodcut of him. Moore was a rough and tumble character from the Bowery in lower Manhattan and had a few run-ins with the law. In April 1878, he was shot during an altercation in a Bowery bar. A woodcut of the fracas was published in the April 27, 1878 National Police Gazette. He is the man falling to the ground based on the details of the accompanying article.
In between criminal exploits (multiple thefts and breakins) and drunken brawls, Moore was a heck of an athlete, starring for top NYC baseball clubs, competing in track races, and most impressively winning multiple handball and racquets championships. The Clipper has him dying on February 24, 1881, but still trying to finalize confirmation on that.
