A pretty ho-hum affair, we managed to keep them scoreless after the third but a hell of a lot of good that did. Jonathan Beck’s RBI single was our only offense, but Henry Chivilli did a good job out of the pen, with 2.1 innings and no hits, just two walks and two strikeouts. Hunter Goodman scored off a walk, and we were outhit 8-4.

We showed signs that our offense might not be completely DOA, but once Arizona got going they were dominant. Ketel Marte batted in five of their 13 runs, and eight of their runs came off homers from him and Suarez. We did steal SIX BASES though, as our players kept trying to will us back into this game on the basepaths. Brenton Doyle had two of them, bringing his season total to six, and he had a hit, a walk and a run scored. Moniak led the way for us with two hits including his fourth homer of the year.

We keep finding new ways to lose painfully ... blew a 3-0 lead, held a 3-3 tie through five and a half scoreless, and then let them score the pinch-runner in the tenth to steal the game from us and complete the sweep. We outhit them 9-6, and Owen Miller’s three-run homer was his first longball of the season. Jefry Yan got through another great inning of relief and is still unblemished through 4.1 innings since getting the call-up, and he, Chivilli, Kinley and Halvorsen made it through 4.1 innings combined with just two hits, two walks, three strikeouts and the unearned run. But they’re taking a beating innings-wise, and we have ten more days in a row before our next rest day. We’re optioning Tyler Freeman back to AAA to make room for Noah Syndergaard, who is coming up as a starting option, while David Ross works to juggle our bullpen the best he can over the next week and a half.
