SORENSEN GOES 5/5 IN COMPLETE GAME WIN AT STAR
ATLANTIC’S ALL-STAR #1 HAS MEMORABLE AFTERNOON AGAINST BROOKLYN COUNTERPARTS
BROOKLYN (June 11, 1873) – Atlantic opened their Brooklyn series at Star BBC looking to stay in a tie with Empire for 1st place, and they did just that with a ten-run victory at the York Street Grounds:
In victory, Atlantic was led by one man: their #1, Olaf Sorensen.• BATTING: 5/5 (all 1B), 2 R, 4 RBI
• PITCHING: CG, 9 HA, 3 RA, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K The key moment for Sorensen came in the 4th inning, when he came to bat and hit a two-run Single to put a cap on a five-run Atlantic rally that made the score 7-1 and effectively put the game away. From there Sorensen made light work of the Star lineup, not allowing his 2nd & 3rd runs of the afternoon until the bottom of the 9th inning.
The performance brought Sorensen’s pitching record on the season to 10-2 with a microscopic 1.19 ERA through 113 innings of work, and with the bat he’s hitting .396 (.804 OPS) to lead all Pitchers in the NBBO.
Incredibly, Sorensen isn’t the first pitcher this season to go 5/5 in a Complete Game as Port Jersey #2 William Spears pulled off the feat against Tiger Social Club on May 25th.
Atlantic is now 14-7, good for a tie with Empire atop the Brooklyn Championship. Star is in 4th place.
