Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL and APL

by Evan Guy

1 June 2315

Another season is underway for the NWL. Despite the rumors surrounding business deals with the CBO, business is as usual as we watch Orange's Fizztop Mountain Park at Nuka-Town USA outfield seating expanding as news of a new theme park emerges. Whatever may happen, the 17th season of the NWL is here.

This year's divisions look to be unbalanced with the South Bradberton Division holding all three winning teams: Orange, Quartz, and Cherry. Victory and Grape are tied at 12-13 atop the North Bradberton Division. Wild has the NWL's worst record at 8-16.

The Tourists are the only team to feature right now. With the best record at 18-6, they have looked to be the team to beat so far. Orange is 1st in runs scored (147) and tied for 1st in runs allowed (94). 1B Doman Northsea (.371/8/31) leads the team in all three Triple Crown categories. Pitching is decently good, but 5th starter Matt Duty (3-0, 1.89) has seen the most success so far.

Doman Northsea, the Orange first baseman, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .371 batting average with 36 hits, 8 home runs, 31 RBIs and scored 24 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Nuka World League Batter of the Month honors for May.

The Nuka World League made it official today -- Shady Sand of the Quartz Star Force is the Pitcher of the Month. In May he impressed the sportswriters with his domination of league hitters.

Sand made 6 starts, registered 4 wins and 1 loss with a solid 2.38 ERA. In 45.1 innings he allowed 47 hits, racked up 29 strikeouts, walked 7 and permitted teams to hit .272 against him.

The best rookie has been named for May -- and the winner is Ulfberth Warbear.
The Nuka World League presented the trophy to him today in a press conference.
It was a sparkling 1-0 record that brought the Cherry starter the Rookie of the Month award.

Warbear stood out last month with a 1.50 ERA in 0 starts, tossed 18 innings, fanned 11 and held opposing batters to a .215 average.

In the Amusement Park League, the Red Rocket Radrats lead the North, while the Galactic Zone G-Force and Nuka Plant Electrics are tied in the South.

Speedracer Ortego has a lot going for him. The Red Rocket left fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Amusement Park League has just picked him as its top hitter for May.

In 15 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .362 with 8 home runs, 17 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

No doubt about it!
Red Rocket starter Ante Carmichael earned his Amusement Park League Pitcher of the Month award.
He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in May.
During the month Carmichael chalked up a 3-0 record with a 2.02 ERA.

The Radrats star made 4 starts and surrendered 24 hits in 26.2 innings. He struck out 20 and walked 5.

Vim! View

News of the Vim! League and Its Affiliates

by Jimmy Gresham

1 June 2315, Day 1 for Jimmy

Vim! League Report

Hi, baseball fans from the Island. This is your ole pal Jimmy Gresham all grown up! I am now the new reporter for the Vim! View, and I am excited to share with you my passion for baseball on the island.

This season, the eight teams all look strong, but the current kings of the hill are the Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers and the Far Harbor Ghoul Whales. The Ghoul Whales used to always be just the Gwhales, but we stopped calling them that here. Well, I'm bringing it back!

At 17-8, the Fog Crawlers have been just amazing. Their superpower is their pitching where they are 1st in runs (89), Starters ERA (3.76), and Bullpen ERA (2.27). Of their five starters, Raymond Maarloeve has been the best at 4-0, 1.93. The ace, Phil Cecil is 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA.

For the Gwhales, they are also good at pitching, though not as good as the Crawlers. I also call them the Crawlahs because that's how everyone says their name here. OK, Far Harbor. Two pitchers are undefeated at 3-0: Kap Kooke (3.14) and Franklin William Kidd (2.72).

Now for the top players this month. We have three for hitting, pitching, and the top rookie.

Billy Yudkowsky battered Vim! League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Vim! League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Yudkowsky told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 24 games, Yudkowsky hit .411 with 2 home runs, 15 RBIs and scored 26 runs.

In May Dalton Farm starter, Raymond Maarloeve really put the strong arm on the other Vim! League teams and hauled in the Pitcher of the Month trophy. He did it with an impressive 4 wins and no losses.

In 5 starts and 37.1 innings of work, Maarloeve limited opposing batters to 31 base hits and a .226 batting average. He fanned 24, issued 14 walks and had a 1.93 ERA.

Raymond Maarloeve really burned up the Vim! League this past month. He went 4 and 0 in May and won the Rookie of the Month award.

In 5 games started he struck out 24 in 37.1 innings with a 1.93 ERA.

MDIL Report

The MDIL is currently getting dominated by the Cliff's Edge Actors at 13-2 with a 13-game winning streak. Do you know why they are the Actors? That's because a bunch of robobrains with the brains of ex-Hollywood stars live at the Cliff's Edge Hotel and have made a comeback in radio theater. They're probably on the radio because they don't look so hot anymore. Gilda Briscoe was a real looker, too!

In the other division, the Old Longfellow Division, the Ms Azalea Shipwrecks and Kitteredge Rad Rabbits are both tied at 9-6. The Shipwrecks won five straight.

The top players this month are Zone Hubbard and Malchemical Scientistman.

Kitteredge Rad Rabbits fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in May.

Zone Hubbard put up a remarkable month at the age of 24 and has been named the Mount Desert Island League Batter of the Month.

For the month, Hubbard hit .407 with 3 home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The #1 pitcher in the Mount Desert Island League this month was Cliff's Edge Actors reliever Malchemical Scientistman. He won the league's Best Pitcher Award for May by saving 6 games in 6 save opportunities.

Over the period Scientistman also had 2 wins and no losses. The Actors relief ace had 6 strikeouts and 1 walk in 8 innings, surrendered 4 base hits and registered a 1.12 ERA.
