JENSEN UP TO OLD TRICKS, BATS 5/5 AT MASS. BAY
FIVE-HIT GAME ENDS A .412 JUNE FOR LEGENDARY ST. JOHN’S OUTFIELDER

BOSTON (June 30, 1873) – After “struggling” with a 11-12 record over the first four weeks of the APBL season St. John’s caught fire in June, and finished their 18-7 month with some fine work in a five-run victory at Massachusetts Bay:

2B Theodore Kohlberg and RF Nelson Townsend put in quality performances for St. John’s in the victory:

• STJ #2 N. Townsend (RF): 3/6, 2B, 3B, 1 R, 3 RBI
• STJ #5 T. Kohlberg (2B): 3/6 (all 1B), 1 R, 1 RBI

However, it was 12x All-Star, 3x Batsman of the Year, and 3x Most Valuable Player Konrad Jensen who stole the show:

• T3: Single past SS off F. Bell
• T5: Leadoff Base on Balls by F. Bell
• T6: 2-run Single past 2B off F. Bell (R)
• T7: Single past SS off J. Desautels (R)

The five-hit effort ended a June in which Jensen hit .412 with 23 Runs Batted in and 24 Stolen Bases, a June that will likely earn him Batsman of the Month honors.

The only frustrating part of Sunday’s win for St. John’s was that they really should have scored more runs than the thirteen that they put across the plate. Over the course of the contest at Oceanside Park St. John’s batsmen left eight men on base to end innings, so a much larger margin of victory was attainable.

For the season, Jensen is batting .374 (.886 OPS) with 65 Runs, 39 Runs Batted In, and 52 Stolen Bases through 48 games. Meanwhile, St. Johns’ 18-7 June has raised their record to 29-19, which has them alone atop the Colonial Conference by three games over Flour City and five games over Niagara.
