CREIGHTON HAS CLASSIC OUTING VS GOTHAM
STAR PITCHES COMPLETE GAME & ADDS FIVE HITS IN BIG EXCELSIOR VICTORY

BROOKLYN (July 5, 1873) – Jim Creighton was at his dominant best on Saturday as he and his Excelsior teammates routed visiting Gotham at Carroll Park:

Excelsior sealed the result with a six-run rally in the bottom of the 5th, with the key hit being a 2-run Single by CF Obelix Tsiaris that came after Jim Creighton loaded the bases with an Infield Single.

Creighton was the key for Excelsior, as he, like he’s done many times before, excelled with both bat and ball:
BATTING: 5/5, 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI, 6 TB
PITCHING: CG, 10 HA, 4 RA, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Creighton’s Double was a leadoff hit in the bottom of the 2nd, after which Tsiaris drove Creighton in with a Double of his own. With the ball Creighton was never in any trouble, as he allowed single runs in four different innings and at no time appeared as if he was about to become the victim of an extended Gotham rally.

Excelsior did have one other notable performance on Saturday, as 1B Tarmo Kuopio was 3/4 with a Double, two Runs, and four Runs Batted In for the victors.

The result left both teams still in the bottom half of the Metropolitan Conference standings, with Gotham in 4th place and Excelsior in 5th. Not that either team, nor anyone else in the Metropolitan for that matter, has top spot on their minds, with American now at 40-13 (.755) and looking increasingly unbeatable.
