For most of four innings, it looked like the Red Springs Red Robins might even the series with the Lumberton Auctioneers. But for the second night in a row, a two-out swing flipped everything.
Lumberton’s Jimmy Honeywell roped a 2-run single in the bottom of the fourth — the first pitch he saw from Red Springs starter Luke Restivo — to give the Auctioneers a lead they never gave back. Lumberton piled on four more in the eighth, coasting to a 6-1 win and dropping the Robins to 0–2 on the young season - the only winless team in the Tobacco State League standings after the first two days of games.
“It’s the same story: one moment that undoes five good innings,” said Red Springs manager Elijah Crabtree. “We’ve got to stop making the big mistake.”
Restivo pitched well overall (7 H, 2 ER, 5 K), but the bullpen once again faltered late. Offensively, Steve Bowser was the lone bright spot, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Chris Wreede picked up a pinch-hit single in the ninth.
The series finale is Sunday afternoon at Lumberton Armory Field. The Robins are looking for their first win — and some momentum — before returning to Robbins Stadium on Monday for their home opener against Whiteville.
