Game 87: Boston Red Sox vs. Miami Marlins
The Miami Marlins (47-40) jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 5 to 1 victory over the visiting Boston Red Sox (48-39). Disappointing to see the Boston offense dry and up not play well against a solid Miami team.
Starter Braxton Garrett (8-3) had an outstanding game, allowing just 1 earned run on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 11 in 8 innings of play; Game Score 75. A.J. Puk provided a scoreless final inning to wrap things up. The Marlins offense was generated by Luis Arraez (2 for 4, Double, Homerun, Run, 2 RBI), Jesus Sanchez (1 for 1, Double, 2 RBI, 3 Walks), and Jake Burger (1 for 3, Double, 2 Runs, Walk).
The Red Sox turned to Kutter Crawford (6-7) to take the mound, but he didn't last long as he was pulled after 2 2/3 innings due to giving up 5 earned runs on 5 hits and 4 walks; Game Score 20. The reliever trio of Justin Slaten (2 2/3 innings, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk), Joely Rodriguez (2 1/3 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk), and Kenley Jansen (1/3 inning) did not allow any additional scoring. The limited offense came from the red-hot Masataka Yoshida (3 for 4, 2 Doubles, RBI) and Ceddanne Rafaela (1 for 3, Double, Run).
Player of the Game: Braxton Garrett
AL East Standings: 1st Place, 1 Game Lead
