Robins Collapse Again, Fall 11–10 Despite Wreede’s Heroics
Red Springs squanders 9–1 lead in stunning fashion

Red Springs, NC – May 25, 2025

Second baseman Chris Wreede hit two home runs, went 4-for-5 and drove in four runs in his debut, but it still wasn’t enough to earn Red Springs its first win.

The Red Robins dropped game 3 to Lumberton, 11–10, after a disastrous sixth inning and even worse seventh inning erased a commanding early lead. Red Springs led 9–1 at one point, then 10–6 after Wreede’s second blast, but gave up four runs in the bottom of the sixth and five more in the seventh to seal a third straight heartbreaking loss.

“Wreede deserved a headline. Instead, he got heartbreak,” one dejected fan behind the Red Springs dugout was heard bemoaning.

Starter Dave Colvin pitched well before a post-rain delay exit, but the bullpen once again failed to hold the line. Red Springs is now 0–3 -- the only Tobacco State League without a win on opening weekend -- and has been outscored 21-2 in innings 6 through 9 this season.

No rest for the weary as Red Spings faces Whiteville (1-2) in its home opener Monday night at Robbins Stadium. Though there are 51 games still left in the TSL summer season, this feels like must-win already.
