LANDRETH RUNS RECORD TO 12-0 VIA SHUTOUT
GREENHORN PITCHER CONTINUES TO STYMIE TOP-TIER OPPOSITION

MANHATTAN (July 18, 1873) – Knickerbocker is hosting APBL-worst Kings County this weekend, and it figures to be a golden opportunity to the home team to take a series sweep and stay within ten games of American.

In the series opener Knick had is easy, as two runs in the bottom of the 1st proved to be enough for the win as Greenhorn P Bert Landreth pitched a Shutout in a 5-0 Knickerbocker victory.

Landreth held Kings Co. to five hits on the afternoon, and while he didn’t strike anybody out Landreth didn’t walk anybody either, and his expert ball placement gave the fielders numerous easy opportunities to retire K.C. batsmen.

The shutout victory ran Landreth’s record so far in his Greenhorn season to a pristine 12-0 with a 2.92 Earned Run Average over 120 innings. The only blemish on his season? Missing roughly five weeks from the end of May to July 10th due to a shoulder issue. Aside from that, 1873 couldn’t conceivably be going any better for the former #1 overall prospect in baseball.

As amazing as his 12-0 record is, it’s easy to see why Landreth has enjoyed the success he’s had so far during his Greenhorn season, as the man possesses an abundance of natural pitching talent:

Landreth probably won’t make the All-Star Game due to the time he’s missed this season due to injury, but if the 23-year-old continues his winning ways then the Greenhorn of the Year award could well be his.

The 5-0 win places Knickerbocker’s record at 39-25 (.609). That would be good for a tie with St. John’s atop the Colonial Conference but unfortunately Knick is in the Metropolitan, so they’re nine games behind the 48-16 American juggernaut.
