ROSTERS NAMED FOR 3RD APBL ALL-STAR GAME
ST. JOHN’S WILL HOST; AMERICAN & SHAMROCK LEAD NOMINATIONS WITH FIVE EACH

NEW YORK CITY (July 28, 1873) – Final vote tallies taken from fans, coaches, players, and Writers Pool members have been completed, and telegrams detailing the rosters for the 3rd American Professional Baseball League All-Star Game have been sent out across the Northeast.

Rosters for the APBL Midsummer Classic aren’t the same as those in its NBBO counterpart:
• Twenty players per conference
• Roster places 1-4 go to pitchers – two for each rotation place
• Roster places 5-20 go to batsmen – two for each position
• All six teams from each conference must be represented
The Colonial Conference is hosting this year’s game, so it was only natural that the hosting duties be awarded to the conference’s only champions: St. John’s and their home venue of Olneyville Field.

Among the rosters, 33 of 40 All-Stars are returnees and two are making their 15th appearance: Knickerbocker SS Edward Huntley and Orange LF Samuel Kessler. Every starter this year is a multiple-time All-Star – NBBO & APBL – with two exceptions: Flour City CF Ernest Dugas & Gotham 1B William Theriault. The other sixteen starters will be players who fans of the sport have known for years, and in some cases well over a decade.

The big surprise this year is the absence of Orange SS Anthony Mascherino, who will be missing his first All-Star Game after making his first fourteen between the NBBO & APBL. The legendary SS has a career-low .281 Average & .629 OPS, and as a result American greenhorn Martin Prince took the second SS spot in the Metropolitan Conference roster.

Here are the All-Star Game rosters, with total All-Star appearances between the NBBO & APBL noted and starters in red:
