And there we are back to reality. A nine game losing streak and slumping batters (or, batters hitting to their talent), and our pitching coming down to earth, and there we are back in 5th. Some not so bad news,
Rendon hit .239/.311/.337 1HR 7RBI 0.2WAR in May and didn’t look totally overwhelmed. Yet, him and
Goins are fighting the Mendoza line… our dear friend.
Oh and by the way,
Scott Kazmir really is the most unlucky pitcher I have ever seen. 2.84ERA and only winning one game? That is outrageous… for the second year in a row.
Also outrageous are the
Minnesota Twins,
Miami Marlins and
Pittsburgh Pirates who have already lost 30+ games this season. The
Marlins have the holy duo of prospects in
Yelich,
Fernandez up there and
Giancarlo Stanton(23, 4*, .257-10-26 .815OPS 1.2WAR) up, but there is little help left. The
Twins are looking at a looong rebuild as now, the #1 prospect in baseball,
Justin Rimmele, has a torn ACL and is out for the year.
Talking about teams where things go well, the
Los Angeles Angels still can’t believe their luck in having
Mike Trout(21, 5*, .342-10-31 1.094OPS 8/10SB 3.2WAR) and are in the division lead with veteran
Albert Pujols(33, 3.5*, .287-7-29 .854OPS 1.0WAR) and 1B
Kendrys Morales(29, 3*, .326-9-36 .921OPS 1.4WAR) supporting him.
If you look below, you can see it was Milestone May last month as a ton of players got their career milestones out of the way, and there are some more that should fall this year… tho the 3500 hits for
Derek Jeter look doubtful as he needs 186 more and I doubt that his career will continue.
A-Rod needs 86 for 3000 but isn’t playing regulary. We could see some home runs milestones fall later this year and at least one 200 win pitcher… none of our business tho.

Some other good news, our top draft picks in
Jim Hatfield and
Adam Brzezinski both got up to a 2* overall by developing in AAA and AA and the same for our A closer
Roberto Osuna… slow progress but progress. Also, I got a pretty interesting scouting report on our AAA catcher and 2012 16th rounder
Eric Fountaine. The 22-year old is a 60 rated defensive catcher now with a 55/45/45/45/60 bat… I guess we found the good defensive catcher as backup to replace
d’Arnaud soon.
On the negative side, we eventually decided to move
Blake Snell into the bullpen. He had an ERA of 6.10 in four starts and it was pretty clear that the flaws we have seen in his scouting report are real. Shame.
International Amateur Discovery Additions and Update:
1B
Hugo Ramos(16, 3*) 45/45/80/60/25 50D at 1B from
Tampa Bay.
2B
Carlos Andujar(16, 3.5*) 60/70/55/55/65 55/55/45 Speed/Stealing 50D at 2B from
New York.
We have some good first baseman in R ball and with
Andujar, another… defensive challenged infielder down there. We will continue to run defensive drills in the development lab… There are too many good batters down there that need some work.
