Game 1: 2-0 W. WP-Ogando (1-1). S-R.Rodriguez (7). Starter-Lennon (6 2 0 0 2 7). HR-C.Williams (4). Williams' 2-run homer in the 8th broke a scoreless deadlock and four Rays pitchers combined to hurl a 4-hit shutout of Houston.

Game 2: 3-2 W. WP-Vargas (2-0, 7 5 0 0 1 7). S-R.Rodriguez (8). HR-Haro (4), Hardy (5). Having been successful so many times over recent seasons in converting relievers to starters, I figured we'd try with Vargas who had started 33 games in his career (mostly in 2027 when he went 3-13, 5.30 with Baltimore and St. Louis), and he came through big tonight replacing Fragoso, who will pitch in long relief. Meanwhile the recipe of great pitching and timely homers got the better of Houston again with Haro's 2-run dinger and Hardy's solo shot accounting for the Tampa Bay offense.

Game 3: 8-5 W. WP-Acosta (2-1, 6 5 3 3 0 7). HR-Gurrola (4), K.White (6). A high-scoring win for a change as the Rays swept the Astros. Gurrola's 3-run blast in the 4th snapped a 2-2 tie and Tampa Bay never relinquished the lead while Hardy contributed a 2-run single.

Team record: 18-11, now only 1/2 game behind Toronto. Next up: Seattle visits for 3.
