Hinton Schools Philadelphia in 6-1 Montreal Triumph
The
Montreal Expos reigned over the
Philadelphia Grizzlies in damp conditions.
The
Philadelphia Grizzlies had their hands full with
Montreal Expos starter
Dan Hinton, who frustrated
Philadelphia hitters while leading
Montreal to a comfortable, 6-1 win. The win has
Montreal at 6-5.
Though he did not get the decision,
Hinton did all he could to keep his team close, twirling a shutout through 6.1 innings, until
Montreal eventually rallied past the
Grizzlies.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said
Hinton.

Grizzlies 11-3 Winners Versus Montreal
Philadelphia parlayed a decent outing from starter
Jessie Dittus into a solid win over the
Montreal Expos. The final score was 11-3.
Dittus, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs. The loss puts
Montreal at 6-6.
Tony Munoz had a big 2-run home run for the
Grizzlies in the bottom of the second inning. With
Philadelphia trailing 3-2 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from
Austin Roy, who led the WL in ERA with 2.98 in 2020, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the
Grizzlies on top, 4-3. The 33-year old is batting .188-2-3 .610OPS -0.1WAR in 10 games.
Philadelphia manager Pat Pierce commended his team for "putting the hammer down."

Grizzlies Collect Series Split with 5-4 Win over Expos
The
Philadelphia Grizzlies had to overcome a fine effort from
Montreal pitcher
Brett Asselin to win, 5-4, at Citizens Bank Park.
Asselin went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. The loss lowers the
Montreal record to 6-7.
Calvin Victor was the walk-off hero for
Philadelphia. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the
Grizzlies pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Victor told a
Philadelphia Bulletin reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

Montreal Expos picked up a win at Olympic Stadium, knocking off the
Cincinnati Eagles, 6-3. Starting pitcher
Sam Griffin was a big reason why.
Griffin yielded 1 run over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 0, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-0. Picking up the save was
Adam Rudolph, his 3rd.
The
Expos benefited from an error in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Montreal was leading 2-1 when
Robby Weltzer hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put
Montreal in front, 4-1.
"Nice win for us," said
Weltzer. "Now we'll go after the next one." He is batting .231-0-2 .593OPS 0.0WAR in 5 games.
The loss has the

Cincinnati Eagles at Olympic Stadium, resulting in a
Montreal win, 3-2. The winning pitcher was
Miranda, now 3-0. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 4. The loss drops
Cincinnati to 7-7.
Rich Meilleur had a big 2-run double for the
Expos in the bottom of the sixth inning. With
Montreal leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a slider from 31-year old right-handed pitcher
Kyle Stewart and swatted a double to right. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the
Expos ahead, 3-0. The Canadian native is hitting .244-1-7 .610OPS 0.2WAR in 13 games.
"Juan is tough when he's hitting his spots," said
Montreal manager Aaron McCreery.

The

Dan Hinton, who muffled the
Cincinnati offense en route to a tight, 3-0
Expos win at Olympic Stadium.
Adam Rudolph picked up the save, his 4th. The win puts
Montreal at 9-7.
Hinton made it look effortless. He scattered 3 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 10 strikeouts. The
Montreal right-hander encountered little resistance from the
Cincinnati hitters. His season record is now 2-1.
