In a surprising turn of events… we somehow won eight straight to end the month of September and with eight games to go… we are close to a wild card spot. We don’t have things in our own hands as we only play teams below us in the standings, namely the
Yankees for two, and then
Baltimore and
Boston. Three teams below .500. Crazy.
We are definitely ahead of schedule with this team for now, and a major factor this month was
Anthony Rendon who won Rookie of the Month and Player of the Month and, according to our scouts, is slowly but surely filling out his potential. And so is
Marcus Stroman who already has a 16-win season. Also,
Adam Brzezinski put up a .253-6-19 .812OPS month and is looking pretty good. My ETA for a winning team was 2014, and we may beat that.
As for the playoff picture, the NL is pretty much set with WSH, ATL, NYM, CIN, STL and SFG in the driver seats for the offseason. In the AL however… no team apart from the
White Sox should be deemed save here and not winning the division could be a death sentence for any team.
Eight more and we know more.

Now, our AAA team made the playoffs, but lost in the first round. The kids are getting there tho and we can see
Suárez and
Castellanos fighting for jobs for 2014 in the lineup, and
Syndergaard,
Giolito and lefty
Daniel Norris working towards a rotation spot mid 2014 or 2015.
In AA, our lefty closer
Mike Cosens, a 5th round pick in 2012, is coming off a 8-7 29SV 2.57 68K 1.7WAR 63IP year and is a 2.5/3* guy, so he may make a big jump into the majors as our lefties there are… concerning. As for
Joe Szczygiel, the scouting report still says future closer and he was 3-0 9SV 0.00 25K in 15.2IP in single A and the scouting report says he can be a decent big leaguer… but I see him starting in AAA next year.
Another year of difficult development lab decisions tho…
