June 20-22, 2039: vs Detroit (3)

Returning home was just the tonic for the Rays as they annihilated the Tigers over three games, outscoring them 26-7 in a sweep.

Sergio Espinoza continued to be a revelation and Danny Arroyave went yard twice to lead the Rays to a 7-1 win over Detroit in the opener. Espinoza went 8 5 1 1 1 7 to improve to 3-0, 1.80 in 5 starts since joining the rotation while Arroyave hit homers 16 & 17 in driving in 3 including a 2-run jack in the first to start the scoring. Billy Doughty added a solo shot (#10) in the romp.

Tampa Bay topped Detroit 10-2 in the second game as Danny Morales ran his record to 8-0. The righty needed 100 pitches to go 5 4 2 2 2 5 but by then he had a huge lead and four relievers tossed a scoreless inning apiece. Of course the real story tonight was the bats with Frank Duron driving in 3 including a 2-run double, Danny Rodriguez hitting a 2-run shot (#5), Tony Fisher also going deep for a pair (#15) and Jeremy Begley adding a bases-empty blast (#17).

The Rays finished off the sweep with a 9-4 win in the finale. Danny Arroyave had another big game, doubling, homering (#18) and driving in 3 while Danny Rivera went solo (#16) and Art Bing doubled in a pair. Mike Blake (4-2) was solid at 6 6 2 2 1 5, only dinged for a pair of solo homers. Tampa Bay is now an impressive 29-7 at home.

Team record: 49-24. Boston was swept so the Rays' division lead ballooned to 11 1/2 games. Next up: A day off as we head to Seattle for 3 games.
