Diamondbacks Slaps 8-4 Loss on Montreal, Murietta

Getting offensive support from Luis Morales, the Arizona Diamondbacks topped the Montreal Expos, 8-4. Morales was 1-1 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Diamondbacks. Tony Romero, who finished 3rd in the WL in ERA with 3.24 last year, was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. The 4th-place Diamondbacks have won 4 consecutive games.

The Expos had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the Diamondbacks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 2021 Rookie of the Year Award winner Marco Lemus came to the plate. Lemus hit a solo home run on a 1-0 sinker from Montreal hurler Marty Murrietta. It was Lemus's 6th home run of the year.

He is batting .254-6-18 .753OPS 0.0WAR in 37 games.

"I like the roll we're on," said Arizona manager A.J. Pascale.

Arizona Sweeps Short Series with 5-3 Win

Arizona and Montreal duked it out and the Diamondbacks came out victorious.

Despite a fine performance by right fielder Ian Messer, the Montreal Expos lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-3. Messer was 3-3 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. Arizona reliever Justin Whitt snagged the win, upping his record to 1-1. Adam Rudolph shouldered the loss. Jon Martin nailed down his 4th save.

Had Luis Morales not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Morales hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Diamondbacks.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Morales said after the game. He is batting .315-2-16 .881OPS 6/9SB 0.5WAR in 26 games out of the leadoff spot.

The Arizona win streak is now 5 games.

Behind a solid performance from first baseman Nate McClory, the San José Killer Whales defeated the Montreal Expos, 7-4. McClory went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Killer Whales.
