Owner Goals
An interesting set of goals this offseason from Jeremy Sherman. Winning the Championship and building a dynasty are the baseline for this franchise as we end the decade. However, extending Dusty Glick who will miss the whole of next season (his final arbitration year) seem bold, as does the desire for the team that led the league in slugging and home runs to need to acquire a power hitter.
Finances
After another postseason run and a season of sellouts despite the increased ticket price, Sherman increases the budget by $4m, backing Stewart in the offseason.
I have just decided on your budget for the upcoming season.
You will have $306,000,000 available for the total team expenses. Given your current spending on staff and other costs, this should allow you a team payroll of around $220,000,000.
Personnel
The Office of the Commissioner has informed you that the following staff member of the Kansas City Royals has decided to retire:
• Scouting Director Joe Witkowski
The Office of the Commissioner has informed you that the following staff member of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (TL, AA) has decided to retire:
• Manager Robert Donovan
The Office of the Commissioner has informed you that the following staff member of the Kansas City (ACL) Royals (ACL, R) has decided to retire:
• Pitching Coach Garrett Sherrill
The Royals promote internally to replace Robert Donovan, with Alan Williams moving up from A ball after 10 years while Quinn Pippen earns a promotion from the ACL to replace Williams.
The Royal look externally for a new Scouting Director, as well as Manager and Pitching Coach at Rookie Ball. A new Scouting Director is the priority to allow for contract decisions to be made in the coming month.
Minor Leagues
Awards
Four Royals Minor League pitchers win awards, with 2047 15th Round Josh Palmer and 2046 6th Round Eric Isles winning Reliever of the Year at Rookie and A Ball respectively. Further up the system, two trade acquisitions win Outstanding Pitcher Awards, Dusty Bartosik at AA and Danny Mueller at AAA.
The Royals dominate at AAA with Ken Crome winning the MVP Award and Peter O’Brien winning his second Manager of the Year Award in a row.
Retirements
The Royals have two retirements from AA, both Free Agent signings to demonstrate the successful escalator they have developed in the Minor Leagues.
