MLB news: Sept. 27 -- Padres will be part of NL postseason party
Despite falling 6-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Diego Padres have clinched a berth in the upcoming National League playoffs.
At 89-67, the Padres lead the Arizona Diamondbacks by a game in the National League West Division with six games remaining.
San Diego is tied with the NL-East leading New York Mets for the best record in the National League.
The Padres last reached the World Series in 1998, losing to the New York Yankees.
San Diego has never won the World Series.
