Montreal, Sacramento Agree to Swap
stadiumreport.bbn June 5th, 2023
According to BNN there were mixed emotions by the players involved in the trade between the
Montreal Expos and the
Sacramento Cavaliers. As part of the deal, the
Expos swapped 18-year old minor league 1B/3B
Alex Franco(18, 3*) to the
Cavaliers getting 28-year old RHCL
Austin Williams(28, 3.5*) in return. The players indicated it was good to get a fresh new start in another city, but it was difficult to leave your friends on the old team.
This season,
Williams has earned 10 saves, made 19 relief appearances, fanned 37 hitters in 22 innings and posted an ERA of 2.45 and a 2-1 record. He is a 2x All-Star and was the WL Reliever of the Year in 2022.
The
Cavaliers receive the Venezuelan scouting discovery
Alex Franco, a 55/45/55/45/55 potential hitter according to OSA’s scouting reports that has hit .366-2-6 .955OPS -0.2WAR in All-Year Rookie Ball.
In a corresponding move,
Cesar Alvarado(23, 2.5*, 0-1 2SV 7.26 -0.3WAR) was demoted to AAA.
--
The Cavaliers set their focus to rebuilding, and we jumped on them right away. The 28-year was dominant for his last four years with an ERA under 2.80 every year and a 3.5WAR season in 2022 and is under team control for another year.
Franco would’ve been an option way in the future when Talbert would near arbitration and he would’ve been ready… but finding a DH is easier and Grok will stay on our roster for a while so…
