The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the hiring of Francisco Mendoza as their hitting coach.
He replaces Thomas Hardgrove, who took over the position near mid-season.
The team hit just .240 under Hardgrove and fell flat in the final games of the National League Championship Series striking out 10 or more times in four of the six games.
The team hopes Mendoza brings more of a contact approach to the plate.
