Cards news: Dec. 18 -- RHP Joey Estes acquired from Oakland for deal including LHP Liberatore
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed starting pitcher Joey Estes from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for left-handed pitcher Matthew Liberatore and minor-league second baseman Dakota Harris.
Estes, 25, has pitched in 131 games/34 starts over the past three season for the Athletics going 18-17 with three saves and a 5.10 ERA.
Liberatore, 27, has bounced back and forth between the majors and minors the past few seasons.
He spent all of 2026 at AAA Memphis as a starting pitcher, where in 30 games he was 12-7 with a 4.32 ERA.
In 92 games in the majors, 25 starts, Liberatore has gone 9-12 with a 4.89 ERA.
Selected in the 11th round of the 2023 draft by St. Louis, Harris split the 2026 season between AA Springfield and AAA Memphis.
In 115 games/101 starts, the 24-year-old hit .309 with nine home runs and 64 RBIs.
