14th Rounder 2018
16-12. Or ‘worst’ month of the season puts us tied with the
Vancouver Canadians for the best record in baseball. That being said, we struggle against other contenders. Best example: 2-4 with the
New York Mets, 1-2 with
Denver, 1-2 with
Houston. Nuff said.
Overall, the team is performing admirably with us second in runs scored and first in runs against and with the addition of
Mitsuyasu Kai and
Austin Williams, the bullpen should be a bit more stable for the rest of the year. All we need now… no injuries and good form. And the
New York Mets starting to struggle.
Those exact
New York Mets are an offensive juggernaut. CF
Abel Lemke(25, 4*, .308-7-45 .830OP 47/53SB 4.0WAR) is putting up video game numbers on the basepaths. Absolutely insane. If C
Mario Toscano(26, 5*, .275-9-46 .820OPS 1.9WAR) starts to get up to his .930OPS version from 2021, 1B
Bernie Castillo(27, 4*, .307-4-41 .776OPS 1.3WAR) returning to his 2x batting champ form and sophomore DH
Alejandro Cantu(24, 3*, .296-15-43 .857OPS) continuing to hit like that… they are dangerous. Oh, and their bottom four of the order already combine for 42 home runs…
And with that, all of the US are looking up towards Canada.
Vancouver is rolling with 2022 Batting Champ LF
Pedro Aragon(24, 3.5*, .288-7-39 .800OPS 1.4WAR), 1B
Brian Ward(30, 3.5*, .334-19-63 .982OPS 2.6WAR), 2x All-Star C
Jake Williams(27, 5*, .309-16-43 .895OPS 2.5WAR) and 3B
Jerry Santa Cruz(25, 3*, .338-15-54 .954OPS 2.9WAR)… their offensive output is premium.
In other news, we will pick #15 in the upcoming First Year player draft + the supplemental round pick, 14th in the second round and 13th every round after that. That being said, this years draft is… a bit more shallow. The best hitter according our scouting department should be RF
Jeffrey Kaufman(18, 5*, 70/55/55/50/55 65D LF), a left-handed hitter from the University of Virginia with high baseball IQ.
Pitching wise, there is a trio of high ceiling right-handers out of high school with high potential… and below that, there is about a dozen of 4* ceiling guys before the draft gets shallow. This won’t be a big haul.

Right now,
Sam Griffin is the ace of this staff. No kiddin’
Brett Asselin has run a bit out of steam with a 5.94ERA in June and it will be interesting to see if he can bounce back and adjust to the league adjusting to him. I now believe in our bullpen. Yes,
Freddy Silva is struggling a BIT, but he is a bullpen leader and then some. I want him around.
Now, imagine this pitching staff with a dealing
Dan Hinton every five days…

Hitting is on point. Even with injuries to the supporting cast and
Fernando Perez out for 2-3 weeks, this is the best offense we have had since I got here. Our defense was a tad bit better last year, but it works. Side node, when
Spangler is back
Pedraza is going to AAA and
Martinez will follow two days later.
Spangler may not be a good defender in center, but the better hitter.
Something else,
Benavides already exceeded his 2022 WAR and
Ian Messer is 0.2WAR away from his 2020 season… our struggling outfield from last year is now dealing and an important 1-2 punch in our lineup. Sooo happy we kept them around.
