The St. Louis Cardinals have placed IF/OF Brendan Donovan on the 15-day injured list after he suffered a fractured thumb during the team's 3-0 Opening Day victory over the San Diego Padres.
Donavan, 30, had reached base in his first four at bats of the season with three hits but was injured while making a play at second base.
He is expected to miss up to five weeks.
Infielder Boston Baro, 22, has been called up from AAA Memphis.
A year ago, in 134 games/131 starts, he hit .327 with 18 home runs and 75 RBIs for the Redbirds.
