Cards news: April 13 -- Thumb injury will sideline 3B Gorman for three months

The St. Louis Cardinals have learned third baseman Nolan Gorman will miss at least three months after he suffered a torn thumb ligament in his left thumb in a play at third base during a 4-2 loss to the Washington Nationals on April 12.
Gorman, 26, has hit just .175 with three home runs and six RBIs in 18 games/17 starts this season.
But over the past two seasons, Gorman has hit 60 home runs and collected 163 RBIs.
He will be replaced on the Cardinals roster by infielder Cesar Prieto, who has been called up from AAA Memphis.
In nine games with the Redbirds this season, the 27-year-old has hit .207 with no home runs or RBIs.
This is the first time Prieto has reached the major-league level.
