Cards news: May 6 -- Elbow injury will sideline lefty reliever John King, Cornwell called up
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed left-handed relief pitcher John King on the 15-day injured list after he left their 6-5 loss in 14 innings to the Philadelphia Phillies on May 6 with elbow tenderness.
King, 32, has pitched in 17 games this season going 1-1 with a 2.63 ERA.
He is expected to miss up to two weeks.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis, is 27-year-old left-hander Alex Cornwall.
Cornwall, who the Cardinals acquired in the 15th round of the 2020 draft, has pitched in 22 games at AAA Memphis this season going 2-4 with one saves and a 6.22 ERA.
For his minor-league career, he is 30-23 with 10 saves and a 4.11 ERA in 168 games/56 starts.
