The Giants are holding on to a wild card spot as the Diamondbacks head off into the distance, 8 games up in the division. The Giants have half a game on the Rockies with the Pirates 2.5 games back in the Wild Card race.
San Francisco Schedule
Another mixed month as the Giants lost series against the Dodgers, Mariners, and Brewers in a sweep, while the Rockies also took a series at Oracle Park. On the plus side, the Red Sox, the Rangers, the Astros, and the Brewers were all defeated.

The hitting continues to get worse while the starting rotation is the best in the league.
Both Joel Hudson and Juan Zetino had much improved months but the infield in general struggled mightily.
Jesus Barbosa is in danger of losing his spot with another below league average month while Andy Frederick continues to hold it all together for the Giants with another strong month. The bullpen is falling apart though, only Bobby Daniels and Rickey Martino with FIP- below 100. Just about every bullpen arm is replaceable and the Giants will continue to monitor the waiver wire.
Transactions & Injuries
Another raft of injuries for the Giants in July after a good news start that saw SP Edgar Castillo and 3B Danny Zellefrow head to Sacramento for an injury rehab.
Zellefrow can’t seem to stay fit though as he suffered a strained hamstring before a fractured thumb ruled him out for 4 weeks.
The big move of the month came when Chris Curp came to the end of his injury rehab. Kevin Dobbs had an above league average bat while replacing Curp and with Curp 32 and having two more years of contract, Stewart took the chance to move on. Adding in 2051 CF Eddie Joy who had not been near the ML roster this year, allowed the Giants to acquire CF Sergio Ibarra from the Orioles. Ibarra, was a 2047 International Amateur signed by the Giants and traded in 2049 for current RP Prince Speech. A plus defender in the corner outfield and a passable CF, Ibarra has the potential for average contact to go with above average power. He will take Joy’s position in AAA.

Minor League News
Beach balls were coming in at Chris Herman in June and he banged, bashed and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .360 batting average and hauling in the Northwest League Batter of the Month trophy.
The 22-year-old Eugene second baseman collected 32 hits last month in 25 games. He put up 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored. Herman also drew 13 walks and compiled a .462 on-base percentage.
On the season, Herman is batting .369 with 26 home runs and 77 RBIs. He has played in 67 games.
