The starting rotation continues to be the highpoint of the Giants roster with the offense in the bottom half of the majority of ranking statistics.
The catching corps has really struggled and Joey Haigh has lost his starting place post-All-Star Break. Juan Minnelli has his first positive month of the season and the Giants hope he can roll back the years for another couple of months.
The highlight was the first award of the Stewart era in San Francisco as RF David Balderas won a Batter of the Week Award, batting .458 (11-for-24) with 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
Transactions & Injuries
July meant several moves by the Giants, as was Stewart’s MO in Kansas City. Andy Frederick missed a couple of weeks either side of the All-Star Break, but was back in the rotation by the end of the month.
The Giants picked up Nevo Clinton off waivers from Pittsburgh, the 2045 1st round pick providing average ratings in everyone except a below average eye to go with plus defense and a positive personality. Acquiring Clinton was Rogelio Tafoya DFA’ed and returned to Sacramento. In what will cause something of a logjam, 3B Danny Zellefrow was sent for an injury rehab stint.
July 21sy unfortunately saw Bobby Daniels suffering a torn labrum, an injury that has ended his career. In 5 years he contributed 0.1 WAR, including -0.4 this year, from 50.2 IP in 21 G and a 3.91 ERA.
As the trade deadline approached the Dodgers offered veteran CF Arturo Caamano, along with propsect RHP Frank Otero in exchange for organisational piece 2049 International Amateur Arturo Amaya. Kevin Simpson had been so poor that the Giants were happy to take a cheap upgrade defensively and the traded Simpson to the Mets in exchange for potential plus prospect LF Frank Calleja, and INJ CL Danny Bolton. Overall, the Giants improved their minor league system while also making a slight improvement in the short term to the Major League roster.
