VALMARA ROOKIE SHORTSTOP DASSNER NAMED IPA POSTSEASON MVP; TEAMMATES BOURGEOIS AND HUNTSMEN FINISH 2ND AND 3RD IN POLL
Valmara's 20-year-old rookie shortstop Howie Dassner had a year he will never forget. He was selected to the Ruthlandian Union All-Star team, his Vipers won their 5th Pro Cup and he also was honored as the IPA Pro Cup Postseason Most Valuable Player. Two of his teammates, reliever Michel Bourgeois and starter Arjan Huntsman, came in second and third in
The Islandian Times Pro Cup MVP poll.
Howie Dassner sparked Valmara to the overall IPA crown with a fine postseason performance. In 19 games he batted .304 with 21 hits in 69 plate appearances with 5 doubles, 3 homers, 21 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
Pro Cup MVP runner-up Valmara closer Michel Bourgeois also played a vital role in the team's Pro Cup victory with 10 relief appearances. He posted a 2-1 mark with a 2.70 ERA and 3 saves in 23 IP.
Winding up third in the Pro Cup MVP balloting was Viper starting pitcher Arjan Huntsman, who made 6 postseason starts with a 4-2 record and a 2.49 ERA. He hurled 43 innings. Huntsman had 2 complete games and one shutout.
All of the three players are rookies. Valmara's future appears to be in good hands.
