The April 1 Super Post

CCBL Analysis

We are 1/3 of the way, 20 games, into the 2316 season, and one team has emerged as surprisingly dominant: the Quincy College Masons (18-2). The Mason as on a six-game winning streak and 9-1 in their last 10, putting them on a 9-1/9-1 split in the first third of their 10-game stretches.

Four other teams are atop their conferences with 15-5 records: Mass Maritime, Greenfield College, Sturbridge, and Yale. The Greenies are tied with UMass atop the Massachusetts Conference but have the current tie breakers. At 13-7, Acadia College is the final conference leader.

Wildcards at this moment in tiers of record are:

15-5: Commonwealth and UMass
14-6: Hope Valley, Providence College, Winthrop College, and Revere College
13-7: UMass-Lowell, Nahant Marine, Bridgeport, Assumption, Brown, and Northeastern
12-8: Coastal, UConn, Mass Bay, and New Hampshire
11-9: CIT, Holy Cross, Hartford, Nuka, Endicott, Mass Atlantic, Rhode Island, and Westerly Education

CCBL Players of the Month

Hitter - UConn Yankees fans believe they've got a talented young star in Alika Morilla.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in March, as he hit .487 with 13 home runs, 27 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

The end result was the first baseman being named the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League Batter of the Month.

Pitcher - The top-rated pitcher this past month in the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League was Arcade Anderson of the Northeastern Huskies. He really dominated league hitters, finishing March with a 5-0 won-lost mark and a 0.72 ERA.

The Huskies ace made 6 starts and surrendered 31 hits in 50 innings. He struck out 73 and walked 7.

CYL Analysis

With 18 games down and 32 to play, the CYL is now more than a 1/3 through its season. The Coventry Quads of the SR's Samuel Adams Division has the CYL's best record of 15-3, but they still have a lot of games to win to be in great shape.

Division leaders are:

NR Franklin - Lowell
NR Emerson - Marblehead
NR Fuller - Covenant and Lexington
NR Revere - Boston Harbor and Boston Common
NR DuBois - Manchester
NR Longfellow - Far Harbor

SR Adams - Coventry
SR Alcott - South Beach
SR Morse - Plymouth and Weymouth
SR Attucks - Harwich and Wellfleet
SR Hancock - New London
SR Bradberton - Chicopee

CYL Players of the Month

NR Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 14 Smoke Seegars has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Covenant Dandy Boys star can enjoy the numbers he put up in March, which have garnered him the nod as the North Region Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .507 average with 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and 35 runs scored.

SR Hitter - Burma Bond is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Chicopee second baseman joined that select company when the South Region announced the results of March's voting.

Bond totaled 31 hits, 16 walks, 12 home runs, 33 RBIs and 19 runs scored last month to put together a .443 batting average and .547 on-base percentage.

NR Pitcher - March's elite pitcher was Sequester Grundelplith M.D. of Diamond City. He silenced North Region hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with 5 wins and no losses in 5 starts.

Grundelplith M.D. restricted opposing hitters to a .222 batting average. He rang up 41 strikeouts in 43 innings of work, surrendered 16 walks and crafted a 1.26 ERA.

SR Pitcher - Question: Who was the #1 pitcher in the South Region in March?
Answer: That would be Adie Chase of the Harwich Fishheads.
He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 2.08 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 39 innings, fanned 42 and held opposing teams to a .272 average. That's exactly why the South Region scribes voted him the Pitcher of the Month.
