Catching up with the Red Robins
Have been playing for the past week. Haven't been posting. With 10 games left in the regular season, the Tobacco State League has become a jumbled mess.
Technically, no one has been eliminated. Sanford has been in the TSL lead for weeks, but Red Springs pulled within a game after beating the Spinners twice on July 11-12. The Red Robins could forge a tie at the top with a sweep in Sunday's series finale. Warsaw and Whiteville are looming, though. Lumberton and Clinton, too.
Recent Red Springs scores (It's been an up-and-down ride)
July 6 - Rockingham 9, Red Springs 2
July 7 - Dunn-Erwin 4, Red Springs 3
July 8 - Red Springs 4, Dunn-Erwin 2
July 9 - Dunn-Erwin 4, Red Springs 1
July 10 - off
July 11 - Red Springs 6, Sanford 1
July 12 - Red Springs 7, Sanford 2
Impressed with Red Springs the past two games. Pitchers
Dave Colvin and
Shane D'Ovidio were sharp. The offense came alive - home runs from
Chris Wreede and reserve left fielder
Mike Tyler. Twenty-five hits in two games against the top team in the league.
Should be a fun stretch run! Or a maddening one. Remember, all 10 teams make the playoffs. The top six get a bye from the "wildcard" series.
