Expos Top Rangers in Extras, 8-4

The Montreal Expos picked up a win at Globe Life Field, knocking off the Chicago Rangers, 8-4. Starting pitcher Marty Murrietta played a key role in the triumph. He worked 6.1 innings of 1-run ball with 4 walks and 9 strikeouts, but got a no-decision.

Montreal reliever Freddy Silva was the winner. His record is now 4-1. Juan Ospina took the loss. The first-place Expos, at 78-47, lead the Eastern League North East Division by 4½ games.

Matt Talbert drew 2 walks in 5 trips to the plate for Montreal. The 26-year old designated hitter had a key at-bat in the top of the tenth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring walk off Juan Ospina. It was his 38th walk of the season.

"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Talbert.

Juan Miranda(R, 9-7 4.12) - Jacob Smucker(R, 8-6 4.48) tomorrow. 15-game winner with 3.08ERA last year.

Smucker Leads Chicago Past Montreal

The home crowd had a good time watching the Montreal Expos and Chicago Rangers get after it.

Chicago registered a win at Globe Life Field by beating the Montreal Expos, 5-1. Pitcher Jacob Smucker was one reason why the Rangers triumphed. By defeating Montreal, the 4th-place Rangers improved to 63-64.

Smucker allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 7.1 innings for the Rangers. With the win, he is 9-6 with an ERA of 4.31.

"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Smucker.

Brett Asselin(L, 15-5 3.89) - Carlos Botello(R, 9-4 4.26) tomorrow. Another solid arm.

#16 for Asselin as Expos Deal Rangers 5-3 Defeat

Montreal Expos starter Brett Asselin found his groove in his team's 5-3 win over the Chicago Rangers. The winner was Asselin. He threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Mitchell O'Day. The Expos improved their record to 79-48 with the win over Chicago.

Montreal used a clutch at-bat from Gabriel Cervantes to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Expos ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger. He is batting .261-13-36 .773OPS 2.5WAR in 94 games.

"I like our moxie," said Expos manager Aaron McCreery.

The Montreal Expos defeated the Chicago Rangers, 10-7. Doing his part was designated hitter Matt Talbert, who hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Montreal is now 80-48, Chicago 63-66.

Montreal used the hitting of Jordan Chavis to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Expos on top, 9-6. For the game, Chavis had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Chavis told the Montreal Herald. The backup catcher is batting .220-7-21 .697OPS 0.1WAR in 47 games.

Garcia Now 7-10 After Beating Expos

At Olympic Stadium, the Montreal Expos and San Francisco Red Devils were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

San Francisco turned a fine outing from starter Luis Garcia into a victory over the Montreal Expos at Olympic Stadium. The final score was 4-0. San Francisco goes to 73-54, Montreal to 80-49.

The Expos had trouble solving Garcia, who surrendered no runs on 4 hits over 7 innings.

"I just tried to focus on getting that first guy out every inning," said Garcia.

The Montreal Expos scored a tight, 4-3 win versus the San Francisco Red Devils at Olympic Stadium. Montreal pitcher Marty Murrietta held his own in the contest. Montreal pitcher Dustin Jenkins got the win. He's now 4-1. Pat Dugger was tagged with the loss. Montreal is now 81-49, San Francisco 73-55.

"Marty had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Montreal manager Aaron McCreery.

The Expos got a clutch hit from shortstop Rich Meilleur. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Expos. He is batting .284-8-52 .768OPS 3.1WAR in 117 games.

San Francisco Beats Montreal, 5-0

San Francisco turned a good effort from starter Francisco Colon into a win over the Montreal Expos at Olympic Stadium. The final score was 5-0. The winning pitcher was Colon, now 1-2. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 7. With the win, San Francisco upped its record to 74-55.

Freddy Naranjo had a big 2-run home run for the Red Devils in the top of the fourth inning. With San Francisco leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Juan Miranda, who is tied for 9th in the EL with a 1.20 WHIP, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Red Devils on top, 3-0.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Colon told the San Francisco Observer.
