Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL and APL

by Evan Guy

1 June 2316

Victory, Cherry Early Leaders in NWL

The Victory Cave Crickets and Cherry Ghoulrillas are early leaders in the NWL. Each team has won the last two championships: Victory in 2314 and Cherry in 2315. Both teams were in the 2314 Nuka Series.

Quantum and Wild are the only other teams in the NWL with a winning record.. Dark is 6-21 and well on its way to its fifth-straight 4th place finish.

At only 23 years of age, A-Train Gilmore could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Victory Cave Crickets, as May was one to remember for the center fielder and he has captured the Nuka World League Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .390 with 7 home runs, 17 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

The Nuka World League Pitcher of the Month honor has been given to Torbjorn Shattershield of Quantum for a superlative month.

"I actually never wanted to be a pitcher," Shattershield told reporters when asked who he credits for his pitching ability. "I was an outfielder until high school and on the third day of tryouts my coach came up and said, 'Son you couldn't hit a lick even if we put it on a tee for ya.' Well, that ticked me off, so I decided if I couldn't hit I wanted to make sure no one else could either and so here I am."

It all turned out for the best as the Quantum starter notched a 4-0 record with a 1.85 ERA last month. He made 6 starts and struck out 23 in 43.2 innings.

Most everybody across the league agree that Bishop Fuller is one fine rookie pitcher. And today the Nuka World League confirmed it by announcing he is this month's recipient of the Rookie of the Month award.

In May the 22-year-old Victory starter proved his worth by racking up 3 wins and no losses with a 0.00 ERA as he struck out 13 in 11.1 innings and held opponents to a .209 batting average.

In the Amusement Park League, the Red Rocket Radrats and Dunmore Ferris Wheels are early leaders. Three teams have the league's worst record at 4-7.

For a rookie just breaking in, Louie Bagel certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the APL Batter of the Month award for May.

The 23-year-old catcher for the Dunmore Ferris Wheels hit .425 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

In May Red Rocket starter Marquis Bristow mystified Amusement Park League hitters and carried off the Pitcher of the Month honors by chalking up a 3-0 record in 3 starts.

The 21-year-old Bristow added 7 strikeouts in 18.1 innings and 9 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.47 ERA. Opposing batters hit .254 against him.

News of the Vim! League and Its Affiliates

Dalton Farm, Acadia Lead Divisions After First Month

There was a lot of hope throughout the ViM! League in the preseason, but it appears that two teams are above the rest. Dalton Farm leads the Fog Division by 3.5 games with a league-best 18-8 record. Acadia is 17-9 and 4.5 up in the Harbor Division. The Acadians were picked to finish in 4th place, while the team picked 1st, Cranberry Island, is in 4th place with a 10-16 record. The Hermit Crabs were seeking their first division crown.

Geecee Metal really smoked the ball in May on his way to Batter of the Month honors in the Vim! League.

The Eden Meadows first baseman hit .380 with 6 home runs, 20 RBIs and 22 runs scored to round out his great month.

In May, the elite pitcher in the Vim! League was Pinch Guidebook, thanks to some great numbers coming out of the bullpen.

The Acadia relief specialist posted a 3-1 mark and an ERA of 0.59 in 15.1 innings with 13 strikeouts and 8 saves in 8 save opportunities.

From Podunk to Paradise sounds like the story of Jackie Jones of the Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers. It has been a sudden rise to fame for this first-year hurler. As of today, he is the Vim! League Rookie of the Month.

Jones was certainly on top of his game in May. He started 5 games and threw 42 innings, striking out 33 and walking 14. In all, he compiled a 4-1 record with a sparkling 1.50 ERA, holding the opposition to a .158 batting average.

The Mount Desert Island League is only 11 games into the 2316 season, so teams have yet to make any real distance. In the Small Bertha Division, Rock Point and Brooke's Head are knotted at 6-5. In the Old Longfellow Division, Kitteredge leads by two games with an 8-3 record.

Even though he is a newcomer to Mount Desert Island League, Cameron Reams put up some good numbers in May and earned the MDIL Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Kitteredge's offensive leaders with a .349 average in 11 games. He also racked up 7 home runs, 17 RBIs, and 14 runs scored.

May was a very good month for Fried Tato Rice of the Kitteredge Rad Rabbits. He held opposing hitters for a .140 average and took home the Mount Desert Island League Pitcher of the Month award.

In 2 starts he claimed a 2-0 record as he put up a 1.12 ERA and struck out 5 in 16 innings.
