Cards news: Sept. 5. -- Butler agrees to one-year extension
The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed with right fielder Lawrence Butler on a one-year contract extension worth $13.6 million.
While the 27-year-old Butler was eligible for arbitration in the off-season, the team's owner, Bill DeWitt II, demanded he be signed to an extension.
Butler was adamant on not inking a multi-year deal, so the team agreed on the $13.6M figure, which was just a bit more than Butler was expected to receive in arbitration.
In his second full year with the Cardinals, Butler has been better than ever hitting .284 with 34 home runs and 94 RBIs in 132 games/126 starts.
