11th Rounder 2017
It was a 14-14 month and it certainly felt like treading water. Injuries were not a concern that much, but it was single performances that hurt us a lot, looking at you,
Paul Ide. Our main rivals from
New York picked up two games on us with five players putting up an OPS of .800+ last month. We had two in
Talbert and
Grok… With all being said, we will be in the playoffs regardless as our lead on a Wild Card slot is substantial… I want that division badly.
In the South East, the big money
Houston Astros($288M budget) have a 6.5 game lead and they are living the dream of having a 36-year old 3x Cy Young winner in SP
Orlando Turrietta(36, 4*, 11-5 3.69 163K 5.3WAR) having a bounceback season and a half, and they rely heavily on him and the pitching as they are 15th in runs scored… I’m not scared by them.
A team that shot up in the standings despite having 29 games in 31 days… are the
Padres with a 21-8 month. Apart from the Pitcher of the Month above(who is 15-2), they have four starters with an ERA under four, and it can be said that
Alberto Avalos(24, 3*, 8-7 3.19 178K 3.8WAR), claimed off waivers from
Washington in 2023, is the co-ace here. Oh, and adding CF
Brian Garcia(30, 3.5*, .272-31-77 .883OPS 2.9WAR) via trade in July made a huge difference.

Sam Griffin also had a tough month with a 4.98ERA and four losses in six games… he was due, despite me loving him to death for what he has done in the last years. That puts up the question: what to do with
Dan Hinton and who is leaving the rotation.
The easy answer is, we recalled
Freddy Silva as player #27, and will put
Dan Hinton in after two rehab starts, and run with a six-man rotation until the end of the season. Easy Easy. Practically,
Miranda is the odd man out, he has been the weakest link in the rotation… not that means that he is bad.

Ian Messer .323 Batting Average – 5th
Our offense came down to earth this month.
Messer hit a .263 clip, which is more up to what you can expect from him, and
Fernando Perez only hit .220 with three home runs.
Hernandez .202,
Cervantes .200. The guy that kept us afloat:
Matt Talbert with a .300/.353/.627 10HR 23RBI 1.1WAR month.
We have to bounce back in September to have a good run into October, but I trust the kids. By the way, despite a cold August,
Fernando Perez leads Rookie hitters by 0.6WAR over
Memphis CF
Aaron Levine(24, 3/4.5*, .286-15-56 .800OPS 2.3WAR) and
Asselin is tied with
Atlanta SP
Daniel Gardreau(23, 3*, 10-12 4.26 164K 2.5WAR)… another Rookie of the Year in the making for us?

Reorganized the list a bit. As you can see, we don’t have hot **** above single A right now. Bad news, our supplemental round pick in
Adam LeRoy is out for the season, and most of the lower draft picks are slashed down to 3* prospects. Yet, our top prospects are still on track and we will have another wave of talent in a few years… and yes
Santiago Rodriguez stays on the trade block.
