Cards news: Oct. 25 -- RHP Bazardo dealt to Cubs for three minor-leaguers

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired minor-league first baseman James Triantos, left-handed reliever Hayden Frank and left-fielder Ivan Brethowr in exchange for right-handed reliever Eduard Bazardo.
Taken in the second round of the 2021 draft, the 24-year-old Triantos made his major league debut in 2027.
He played in 12 games/six starts for the Cubs during which he hit .259 with one home run and four RBIs.
Over his minor-league career, Triantos has played in 716 games/684 starts during which he has hit .306 with 63 home runs and 387 RBIs.
The Cubs signed Frank as a free agent in July of 2024.
He spent the 2027 season in rookie ball and Class A Myrtle Beach getting into 16 games during which he went 0-1 with six saves and a 1.71 ERA.
Brethowr, 24, was taken in the seventh round of the 2024 draft by the Cubs.
He started the 2027 season in rookie league and would advance all the way to AA Knoxville.
In 91 games, he hit .215 with 13 home runs and 37 RBIs.
The 32-year-old Bazardo just completed his third season with St. Louis.
The right-handed split time between AAA Memphis and the majors all three seasons.
His best season came in 2026, when he got into 21 games and went 3-0 with a save and a 2.11 ERA.
Bazardo's worst season with the Cardninals came in 2027, when he got into 32 games and a went 1-0 with three saves and an 8.07 ERA.
The Cardinals were not planning on offering salary arbitration to Bazardo, leading to the trade.
